Who gave you reason?
You’re only meant to cry once in a while
Who gave you a reason?
The darkness. It became her new home. Now more comforting than the light she was formally accustomed to. Her smile, presence, her everything used to light up the darkened souls around her. She was one of the small little motivators, the little light at the end of the tunnel in the corps. But the happiness she once emitted vanished from the loss. The immense loss.
The majority of those in her squad, some new, young cadets and others long time companions, had died in the recent expedition. She had lost others before; friends she still held dear to her heart. But she was now a squad leader, and under her watch, leadership, had cost them their lives.
Warm liquid spilled from her (eye colour) eyes, muffled sobs escaping her covered chapped lips as she hugged her knees to her chest. The overwhelming sadness and rage weighed on her heart, darkening her once optimistic view. It was her fault. Her fault they lost their lives so young; for the tears their loved ones were surely shedding.
If she was strong enough, if she was a better leader, maybe the death toll would have been less than it was.
Gentle. A knock at her door jolted her from her thoughts.
"(Name) are you in there?" A deep, familiar voice laced with concern and worry, echoed past the wooden door. Profusely, she wiped the salty tears from her eyes, attempting to look as composed as she possibly could. Scooting from the middle of her bed, she planted her feet onto the cold, hard ground, straightening out her wrinkled uniform in the process. Licking her chapped lips she took a deep, shaky breath, calming the tears and sobs that threatened to pour out of her.
"Erwin, what brings you here?" She calmly inquired of the blond squad leader, continuing to hide the sadness consuming her.
"I came to see how you were. I know what happened today can't be easy for you." He gave her a reassuring look, placing his large hands on her small shoulders.
A small smile etched it's way onto her delicate features before she nodded in agreement to his words. Letting him know of her true feelings, of how weak she was, was something she couldn't let him see.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He questioned, subtly eyeing her up and down, attempting to read the soul he cared deeply about. He hated when she would hide in the little dark room of hers, most likely crying until she fell asleep, tears dried on her flawless face. He just wished she would confide in him; the one person who had been with her through it all.
Shakily, she hummed in response finding interest in the wooden floor beneath them, feeling the the tears in her eyes beginning to well as all the emotions slowly attempted to burst right out of her being from his reminiscing words. For seconds, a heavy silence fell between the two, before she felt the taller blond gently push her back into her little room, closing the door behind him.
"You don't have to hide it from me." He sternly spoke, cupping her soft cheeks in his calloused hands. Amply, she shook her head, her soft locks flashing against her skin as she felt the tears that welled behind her lids flow from her (eye colour) eyes. Gently, Erwin wiped the tears with the pads of his thumbs, lifting her head to look into his icy blue eyes. "Tell me."
You must rely on love once in a while
To give you reason
You must rely on me once in a while
To give you a reason
"Lean on me, allow me to shoulder your burdens, your pain, with you. You're not alone (Name)." His voice, low and sonorous as he spoke, running circles along the contours of her face, his strong icy hues never once leaving hers. Even if she tried to push him away, he would always come back. Pleading to let him help her; to comfort her. That was who he was. But why does he feel the need to go to such lengths for her sake? Was she that significant to him?
Resting his head in the crook of her neck, his baritone voice whispered three words into her ear. His voice encircled her as her eyes widened in shock. Erwin now holding her smaller frame closer to his larger, his cool breathes feathering her neck in a soothing manner.
I love you.
And with that, she broke. Heavy tears rolled down her cheeks, her body shook convulsively as she sobbed, letting her emotions flow out of her. The sadness, regret and now mixed with happiness and relief filled the salty tears that now stained his pure shirt. Her fist balled at his lower back, gripping at the soft fabric of his crisp button up. Erwin wrapped his arms around her, supporting her like a strong pillar. Shouldering the pain with her to ease the remorse formally weighing on her heart.
Erwin was what she needed. Who she needed to rely on.
He became the reason she smiled again.

RUMOR HAS IT…
Strung together at the beginning of a sentence, those three simple words was all it took to turn your seven year relationship with Erwin Smith into one of absolute torture, filled with self-doubt and never ending questions. It began with a simple whisper, hushed tones passed back and forth behind raised hands and covered mouths. Over time, the whispers grew into full fledged discussions consisting of theory, conjecture, suspicion, even wagers; nothing

“[Name]!” Mikasa waved at you.
You turned your head in her direction and began to run towards her. She hugged you tightly and had a concerned look on her face.
“Have you seen Eren anywhere?” You slowly pulled away from her.
She shook her head as tears began to fill her eyes. You frowned. Where on earth could he be? You grabbed her head and pulled her into a hug.
“We’ll find him, don’t worry.” You stroked her obsidian hair.
Mikasa wiped the tears from her reddened eyes as she nodded. There was no way you’d let Eren just vanish.

You laid in your bed, eyes droopy and blurry with drowsiness. You had been this way ever since the rain started, and that was three days ago. You had never seen it rain so much, but quite honestly, you loved it. It was the perfect sleeping weather, and sleep was something you didn’t get much of living inside the walls in constant fear of a huge monsters ripping you in half. But, there was one thing that was missing that would make this perfect weather even more perfect.
There was one thing that rainy weather was known for. Cuddling. You truly longed for someone to lay beside you on days like this, and even on days that weren’t li

I'm not really sure what to say about this fic. I just got the idea while I was listen to music and I just wanted to write something for Erwin and something that wasn't an AU. But I do really love this song and the meaning for it.
Oh and I set this fic around the time Erwin was still just a squad leader.
I hope you enjoy this and if you have feedback/there are mistake/criticism please don't hesitate to tell me!
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
